Crosshole Ground‐Penetrating Radar in Clay‐Rich Quaternary Deposits: Toward Characterization of High‐Loss Media

چکیده

Knowing the centimeter-to meter-scale distribution of sand in clayey deposits is important for determining dominating water flow pathways. Borehole information has a high vertical resolution, on millimeter- to centimeter-scale, but provides poor lateral coverage. For highly heterogeneous deposits, such as glacial diamicts, this detailed borehole may not be sufficient creating reliable geological models. Crosshole ground-penetrating radar (GPR) can provide decimeter- variation between boreholes, mainly been used sandy environments. In study, we investigate whether crosshole GPR structural relationship diamicts and their material properties, content, bulk density, clay content. To achieve ground truth, compare data with from boreholes an excavation at field site. The was analyzed comprehensively using several wave attributes both time- frequency domain, describing signal velocity, strength, shape. We found small variations velocity (between 0.06 0.07 m/ns) large amplitude shape (either order magnitude or doubling/tripling attribute values). see that response wetter more have lower amplitudes centroid frequencies than drier sandier counterparts. Lastly, find better correlated diamicts' properties velocity.

Geostatistical inference using crosshole ground-penetrating radar

High-resolution tomographic images obtained from crosshole geophysical measurements have the potential to provide valuable information about the geostatistical properties of unsaturated-zone hydrologic-state variables such as moisture content. Under drained or quasi-steady-state conditions, the moisture content will reflect the variation of the physical properties of the subsurface, which deter...

Luminescence dating of quaternary deposits in geology in Brazil.

In the present work, systematic dating by luminescence methods has been done on 50 Quaternary geological samples within the study area of São Paulo State, Brazil. Bleaching experiments showed that residual TL intensity of 375 degrees C peak, of the quartz, was obtained after 10 h of sunlight exposition. Intensities decays of the 325 and 375 degrees C TL peaks can be fitted using second order ex...

Quaternary Loess Deposits of Wadi Gaza in the Middle of the Gaza Strip, Palestine

The Gaza Strip constitutes the south-western part of Palestine. The loess deposits were observed in the Middle and Gaza Governorates in Gaza Strip. This study carried out in the Wadi Gaza where Quaternary loess well crops out. Twenty three samples were collected from nine observation sites in the study area, and performed a textural, calcium carbonate and organic matter content studies. The loe...

The Importance of Soil and Alluvial and Quaternary Deposits Conditions in Seismic Risk Analysis

The land of Iran is a seismic active prone that is located in the mountainous and instable crust due to special geological position. Continuous tectonic stress from the Arabic and Indian plates has exposed seismic active faults. The huge and destructive earthquakes that occur every few years in this area reflect the tectonic conditions of the plateau of Iran. Since, the path of faults and fract...
